Vicinity Winners Honored

During an awards reception Oct. 14, the Norris Gallery Committee of the Norris Cultural Arts Center honored five artists for the works they entered in the gallery’s current Vicinity 2012 exhibit. The annual art show, featuring 78 works in various media created by area artists, is a juried exhibition for artists in all media residing within a 50-mile radius of the Norris Gallery.

After selecting works to exhibit from more than 100 entries, the jury named David Bower as winner of the $500 Lester J. Norris Award for his collage and mixed media work, “Journey.” The jury also chose three artists to receive Awards of Excellence. They are Deborah Cummins for her photograph, “Government Transparency”; Peggy Dee for her acrylic and pastel painting, “Leaning Figure with One High Heel Shoe”; and Patricia Lenahan-Barbee for her acrylic painting, “Rousseau Sleeping.” Also, Denise Bellezo received honorable mention for her monoprint, “Maz Madder Mesa.”
